Playlovers are holding a read-through of this play by Charlotte Keatley. The objective is to perform the play later in the year.
Alida Chaney who will direct it says: “I want to get interested parties along, but also those keen to be at a play reading for the experience and not necessarily wanting to audition, as I feel it is a good learning experience.”
The play is rather complex in the way it is written and explores the relationship and the lives of four generations of women from one family. The consequences of family secrets and lies, choices made and the expectations placed upon them in the 20th century.
The play is deliberately ‘unrealistic’ and does not run chronologically or with any linear structure. The scenes span from the 1920’s to 1980’s when changes to female roles were immense.
Alida says: “I would like everyone who comes along to the reading to ‘have a go’ at one of the roles by reading it. This doesn’t necessarily mean that they wish to go ahead and audition for the play the following month, but I would like to create some interest in the characters and encourage potential performers who envisage themselves in one of the roles auditioning for that part.”
