AUDITION: HOW TO SURVIVE A ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE.

Announcing AUDITIONS for ARENA’s Community Theatre Production HOW TO SURVIVE A ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE.

This comedy play is presented in the form of a Seminar. Members of the School Of Survival (S.O.S.) lead the audience through a selection of scenes that demonstrate such things as : What Is A Zombie?, How To Pick Your Survival Team, How To Fight A Zombie, Counseling Techniques, Choosing Weapons, Bargaining With Other Survivors and Finding The Ultimate Audience Survivor.

And it answers the ultimate question of who is better to defeat a zombie – a Pirate or a Giraffe?

The Team also spends a fair amount of time squabbling with each other! There is a lot of audience interaction, as we eliminate people bit by bit until we are left with only those who would truly SURVIVE A ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE!. Lots of laughs, lots of fun!

There are four roles (2F+2M or 3F+1M). The characters are :

DR DALE SESLICK (m/f) 20s-50s.

Lead Role. The Founder and main facilitator of seminars conducted by the School of Survival (S.O.S.). An intelligent, knowledgeable, dedicated, outgoing and expert Public Speaker, who tends to punctuate all their speeches with overly demonstrative gestures. Can get rather frustrated with their staff and wobbles into the realm of being rather manic at times.

JUDY O’DEA (f) 20s-40s.

Dr Dale’s loyal assistant. Scientific to a fault. To the point. Super-intelligent, driven, pedantic, earnest, cool/calm/collected until pushed and she can become rather authoritative and derisive. She is the one who attempts to control the other members of the team, although often gets drawn into the insanity unwillingly. She tries to act and react if everything is carrying on normally.

DONNIE STRAITE (m) 20s-50s.

A Survivalist. A Rambo. He has followed every conspiracy theory in the book. Into weapons, martial arts, being outdoors, loves cheese sandwiches. Not blessed with too many brain cells. Still, he is keen, single-minded, determined, and a BIG character. Very keen to get involved in all aspects of training but can get easily distracted if there is a pretty lady in the audience. Considers himself a bit of a ladies man. The ladies do not. He has swagger but not a lot of substance, as he is not quite the expert he thinks he is.

TRISTA GRANGER (f). 20s-40s.

A gentle soul. Rather naive. A new age believer. A dreamer. Absolutely ditzy. Honest, earnest, loyal, committed and “aware”. She tries so, so hard, but generally has no idea what is going on in the seminar. Always ready to smile and has a sense of childish wonderment about the world. She is not that bright and her brain often goes off on irrelevant tangents. She tries to listen and understand what is going on until her mind drifts and she starts thinking about puppies and clouds.

PERFORMANCES will be Friday/Saturday nights and Sunday matinees (maybe some Thursday nights, too) throughout APRIL 2022. 10-12 shows. They will be at various Function/Seminar Rooms at Pubs/Taverns around the Metro area. We also are planning a weekend at the Alexandra Theatre as part of the Victoria Park Arts Festival.

REHEARSALS will be twice weekly, based on people’s availability, and commence in JANUARY 2022 in Victoria Park.

AUDITIONS will consist of 4-5 people being booked into each hour timeslot. You will have a MONOLOGUE and a DIALOGUE for each character(s) you wish to try out for, plus you will be given a scenario to act out as an IMPRO interaction with the audience. (Don’t panic if you have little improvisations experience as Workshops during Rehearsals will give you the skills to do so). These AUDITION PIECES will be emailed a week prior to the AUDITIONS.

AUDITION dates/times are :

SUNDAY 12th DECEMBER 3:00pm, 4:00pm and 5:00pm

TUESDAY 14th DECEMBER 6:30pm, 7.30pm and 8:30pm

WEDNESDAY 15th DECEMBER 6:30pm, 7:30pm and 8:30pm

at the Alexandra Theatre, 627 Albany Hwy, Victoria Park.

The FIRST READING will be on SUNDAY 19th DECEMBER 4-6pm, in Armadale.
