Chicago is coming to Marloo Theatre!

Set in 1920s Chicago and based on real-life murders and trials, Chicago follows Roxie Hart, a wannabe vaudevillian star who murders her lover and is arrested, despite her attempts to convince her pushover husband, Amos, to lie for her. In the Cook County Jail, Roxie meets her hero, the famed double-murderess and nightclub performer Velma Kelly. When both acquire the same lawyer, the greedy and lustful superstar, Billy Flynn, tensions come to a head as they vie for the spotlight – though instead of onstage, they’re mugging for the flashbulb of the newspaper reporters. With catchy, sexy music and timeless lyrics by John Kander and Fred Ebb, and a funny, intelligent, and utterly engaging book by Kander and Bob Fosse, Chicago is a musical spectacular that is as addictive as gossip rags and as unforgettable as any trial of the century.

Auditions:
Auditions are going to take place in one hour blocks. Within that hour you will spend half an hour learning a short section of a dance in a group. Everyone auditioning will need to dance, no matter what role you plan to audition for as all roles will dance in this production.

Then each auditionee will individually perform a verse and chorus of a musical theatre song. There will be no reading but you are encouraged to choose a song that will allow you to show character through your performance. Please choose a song that is in the style of the show, but not from Chicago.

All auditions will be videotaped only for reference in making casting decisions. You will be reminded of this at the auditions.

Rehearsals:
Rehearsals will be two to three times a week, two evenings Monday-Friday and then one morning/afternoon on the weekend. In order to create a proper rehearsal schedule, please do your best to let us know of your commitments in as much detail as you can.

Rehearsals will take place at Marloo Theatre and occasionally external spaces in the area.

Rehearsals will begin in late January, however there may be some occasions before the end of the year when cast are required. All dates will be given as soon as possible.

Show Dates:
There are going to be 14 performances and actors are expected to be available for all of them. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday performances will be evening shows and Sunday performances will be matinees.
