Set in a country town in NSW in 1946, Coral hosts a small gathering of friends after the dedication of the town square in memory of her dead war hero husband and respected (ex) Lord Mayor, Dr. Harold McQueen. Not only has she lost her husband in the war but also her son. She now lives with her 16yr old daughter, Brenda who drives her mad with her be-bop records and swing dancing. Joy, alcoholic and also widowed in the war arrives with Maidey – spinster, sour and determined to rehash old memories to find out who murdered her twin sister, Elaine of the eve of World War II – seven years ago to the night.

The arrival of Eliane’s daughter, Lucinda and her fiancee, American pilot, Chuch starts the questions rolling regarding the mysterious death of her mother, officially said to have been suicide. Her death certificate, signed by Harold makes him high on the list of suspects, along with Elliott, Joy’s husband, but both these men are dead.

Elaine returns as a ghost, bemused to find she was murdered, “I knew I didn’t commit suicide – I was having too much fun”, encourages Lucinda to find the killer – and give her daughter motherly advice on her forthcoming marriage – she also lets slip that Lucy’s unknown father is still alive! But ghosts don’t always tell the truth as the play reveals. Huge surprises and turmoil as everyone’s secrets are revealed and old wounds are torn open again. Its a play of sadness, shock and awful hilarity …
